Exhibition period: December 17 (Tue), 2019 – March 15 (Sun), 2020

This year, antique old tools, dating back 150-40 years ago, will be collected and exhibited. The tools are exhibited in 3 categories that are connected to the life of children; “Evolution of tools,” “Town” and “Home.” A scene with old tools being used has been reproduced for display and for use.
This kids-and-family-friendly exhibition provides hands-on experience.

Experience corner menu

  • Try writing letters on “sekiban (slates).”
  • Try wringing clothes in the roller of a washing machine.
  • Try sewing machines with a foot treadle.
  • Try drawing the lottery at “dagashiya,” the traditional candy shop (limited to junior high school students and younger).
  • Try watching a black-and-white TV.
  • Try using a hand pump.
  • Try using washboards.
  • Try grinding beans with a millstone.
  • Try getting into a mosquito net.
  • Try using a low dining table.
