Gifu City Museum of History Renewal / Gifu Shimbun 145th Anniversary Special Exhibition: “Ukiyoe Immersive Art Exhibition GIFU”

预告
Exhibition Period: November 6 (Fri), 2026 – January 11 (Mon & Holiday), 2027

Featuring more than 300 works by world-renowned ukiyo-e artists, including Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Utagawa Hiroshige, Kitagawa Utamaro, Toshusai Sharaku, and Utagawa Kunisada, this exhibition transforms these masterpieces into a new form of digital art that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and from all linguistic backgrounds, using cutting-edge 3D CG animation and projection mapping. Visitors can immerse themselves in the world of ukiyo-e within spectacular three-dimensional visual spaces inspired by a variety of concepts, creating an immersive, hands-on digital art experience.
Besides the digital exhibits, the exhibition features renowned ukiyo-e prints from the Edo period as well as reproduction prints, providing an introduction to the history of ukiyo-e, the culture of Edo, and the ukiyo-e artists who created these works.
In addition, the exhibition presents new original content inspired by more than 50 ukiyo-e works from the museum’s collection. Subjects deeply connected to Gifu, including cormorant fishing and Oda Nobunaga, are brought to life as vivid digital art, offering visitors a powerful visual experience as if these historic scenes were coming to life and moving once again across the centuries.
We invite you to enjoy this limited-time immersive exhibition, where masterpieces of ukiyo-e that have captivated audiences around the world for generations come dynamically to life before your eyes.
